Santa Maria’s ‘Downtown Fridays’ Kicking Off Bigger-Than-Ever Venue

SANTA MARIA, Calif. (KEYT) - Santa Maria’s famous “Downtown Fridays” is kicking off this year at its new location.

Organizers say the McClelland Street corridor is much better than the old Fallas parking lot.

This free community event has become a known tradition in Santa Maria over the first decade of its life, and they’ve been trying to move for the last seven years.

Since 2015, the event has had to be held in the parking lot of the old Mervyn’s & Fallas building.

That building is being converted into a loft apartment complex, but Downtown Fridays needed a new home anyway.

Organizers of Downtown Fridays say it’s been a long road to get the event moved, and that this is a milestone accomplishment.

There’s certainly more space at the new location — multiple parking lots, near to several recreational facilities, and a portion of the street that will be closed to traffic.

As always, the event is free for everyone, and runs for the whole summer, every Friday evening until the end of September.
