Tower of quarters comes down for Central Coast charity
A special tower of quarters made from donations has come down with a bang in Los Olivos.
You might recall NewsChannel 3 featured the “Scane” tower at the Figueroa Mountain Brewing Tap Room in Los Olivos back in May.
Customers have been bringing in quarters that were placed around the tower in a circular design until it was at the top. The quarters stuck together because each one was dipped in beer.
Yesterday the tower was tipped and hit with a hammer – breaking the quarters free. They will be totaled up Monday but it is estimated to have brought in about $2,000.
The money for this drive was earmarked for the Make a Wish Foundation that grants wishes to children with a terminal illness.
Manager David Esdaile said the idea comes from a fundraiser his grandfather would do in London to help a local hospital. His name was Scane and that was how the tower got its name.
Yesterday the tower was tipped and hit in several places with a hammer – breaking the quarters free. Several assistants were nearby with helping hands.
Another Scane tower is going up soon for another local charity from the Santa Ynez Valley that is assisting the people of Haiti.
More details on that cause will be released in the weeks ahead.
