Oxnard police spotting speeders on Ventura Road

Oxnard police are noticing an increase in speeding cases on Ventura Road between Stone Creek and Town Center road.

NewsChannel 3’s Alex Biston caught up with officers patrolling Ventura and Wagon Wheel Road Friday morning. In just about 15 minutes, officers pulled over four people for driving above the 40 MPH speed limit.

Senior Officer, Jamie Brown says accidents have increased specifically in this area, some have even turned deadly.

“Over the past two years, we’ve had ten crashes, five of those involving an injury and six of those were related to speed,” said Brown.

Just a few days ago, officers stopped a motorcyclist traveling over 90 MPH. The rider was charged with reckless driving and was arrested.

“It does happen,” said Brown. “We’re being aware of that and trying to make sure we do whatever we can to avoid that by being out here and being visible.”

The Oxnard Police Department has also seen a spike in complaints. Some residents took to social media to voice their concerns.

“There are always speeders in that area,” said Rita Rojas-Sanchez on the Oxnard Police Department Facebook page.

“I live right off of Ventura road, and at any time of the day or night you can hear people speeding,” said Andria Garcia, who also posted on Facebook.

“Drivers just have to slow down and give themselves time to get where they need to get to,” said Brown. “Be aware of where you are driving and how you are driving.”

Citations for speeding in this area can cost hundreds of dollars.
