Carpinteria State Beach reopens Friday after storm impacts

Carpinteria State Beach welcomes guests again Friday after impacts from the massive January 9, 2018 storm.

That sent tons of mud and debris from the hills to the ocean including a drainage that went through and over flowed into the park.

The location is very popular because it is located right on the beach in the quaint coastal city. Some of the guests book their sites annually on special days or weekends, and they have done so for years.

There are 216 sites for camping and overnight RV stays. It is operated by the California State Park system.

The mudflow and debris runoff has been cleared up and the beach, once covered with large mounds of driftwood, is looking better.

The water is being tested regularly and currently the ocean has a high bacteria count from the water coming out of the hills. When that clears up, the water and swimming restrictions will be lifted.

The entrance to the State Beach is off of Palm Avenue in Carpinteria. It is adjacent to the Carpinteria City beach which is often referred to as the “World’s Safest Beach.” The location is also walking distance to downtown shops, restaurants and entertainment.
