Lompoc unveils new city buses paying tribute to members of the military

With the debut of its seven new City of Lompoc Transportation (COLT) buses this week, Lompoc unveils a mobile tribute to members of the military.

The 16-passenger Chevrolet vehicles each feature a colorful graphic design aimed at honoring those who serve our country.

“We’re in close proximity to Vandenberg Air Force Base, and the City of Lompoc and all of our community has a great respect for our local military men and women,” said Samantha Scroggin, a city spokeswoman. “This is just another way we can reach out to them and show our appreciation for all that they do.”

These mobile tributes replace seven buses that have surpassed their useful life expectancy. The total cost of the upgrade is $671,581, which is funded by the State Transportation Development Act.

The outdated 2008 vehicles will be sent to auction. The funds raised from sales will circle back to the City of Lompoc’s general and transit funds.
