Unconscious Oxnard man’s death ruled a homicide

The death of a man found unconscious in a north Oxnard alley on Sunday has been ruled a homicide by investigators.

Police located the 27-year-old victim in the 1300 block of Azalea Street at about 2:56 a.m. after being dispatched for reports of gunshots heard in the area. The victim, whose identity has yet to be released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Early in the investigation, police were not able to find any indications the deceased was a victim of assault despite having found evidence of a shooting scene.

It wasn’t until an autopsy was conducted on the victim that investigators were able to confidently rule his death a homicide. The victim died from a gunshot wound.

This marks Oxnard’s 14th homicide of the year.

The City of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction in homicide cases.
