Surfer dies after accident at Moonstone Beach near Cambria

A 19-year-old man is dead after a surfing accident that occurred at Moonstone Beach near Cambria Friday afternoon.

Deputies responded to the beach at around 4:40 p.m. for a report of an injured surfer.

The man was being administered CPR when deputies arrived on scene.

The man had been surfing with friends before the apparent accident.

An ambulance took the man to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, but he died at the hospital later that evening.

He has been identified as Liam Alexander Taylor, 19, of Cambria.

The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office said the death was accidental and no foul play was suspected.

A coroner’s investigation is underway.
