Family member of victim in Lompoc triple shooting speaks out

Lompoc police are investigating a Fourth of July shooting that left three people hospitalized as possibly gang related.

Lompoc Police Chief Pat Walsh said two of the three victims were shot in the face. The third suffered a gunshot wound to the arm. The shooting occurred in an alley in the 700 block of North F and G streets shortly before 10 p.m.

One of the victim’s family told KCOY 12 that all three victims were together last night at a cook-out when the shooting unfolded.

“Some other guys came up and started blasting it caught us in a rare moment,” says Dameon James, one of the victim’s cousins.

James says he saw two suspects with one of them wearing a mask covering half of his face and wearing a black hat with white writing. He said someone walked up to the group of people and started shooting.

“Somebody that got to know this area that came around because they let them walk up with no questions asked and got in and got out,” he says.

He says that he was also shot at but managed to get away unharmed.

“I was shot at, I hit the gate, I didn’t want to run on a straight away so they didn’t have a good chance to aim at me,” adds James.

He says that two of the victims shot were from out of town.

All three victims remain hospitalized. They are expected to recover.
