UCSB hires Joe Pasternack as head basketball coach

Sources tell Mike Klan that Joe Pasternack will be the next head coach of the UCSB men’s basketball program.

Pasternack, who turns 40 next month, has been at the University of Arizona since 2011 and has served as the associate head coach since the 2013-14 season.

Prior to coming to Arizona, Pasternack was the head coach of New Orleans for four seasons.

He also served as an assistant coach at Cal from 2000-2007.

Pasternack and UCSB were reportedly hammering out the final details of the offer today. Pasternack reportedly interviewed on campus earlier this week. A press release could come tomorrow and a press conference introducing Joe Pasternack as the new Gauchos coach could be on Tuesday.

Pasternack has extensive international contacts so expect him to bring in some players right away to help a UCSB team that had just 6 wins this past season.

Bob Williams coached UCSB for the past 19 seasons before his contract was not renewed.
