Fungus-ridden trees being removed from Santa Barbara YMCA
28 trees suffering from root rot fungus will be removed from the Santa Barbara Family YMCA property.
Most of the eucalyptus and canary pine trees are surrounding the children’s playground also known as “The Grove.”
About 9 months ago, a large eucalyptus tree collapsed following a rain storm onto the playground and several cars. Fortunately, no one was injured.
That incident prompted the management team at YMCA to hire an arborist to check out the other trees on the property. The arborist determined 28 trees were dying from root rot and needed to be removed as soon as possible to prevent any further damages or threats to people who use the facility.
‘SB Tree Care’ was hired to remove the trees. Crews began their two week removal process Wednesday morning.
