Kinder County Fair in Santa Maria a big success
Kindergartners at Ontiveros Elementary School in Santa Maria took part in its annual Kinder County Fair Thursday morning. The school believes the event helps create a stronger connection between its students and the community.
The Kinder County Fair gives students a chance to create agriculture related visual art projects that come in all different shapes and sizes. There was even a category for students to cook and bake. Kindergartners also got the chance to meet farm animals as part of a Righetti High School program.
“Many of the students parents work in agriculture,” says kindergarten teach Danielle Alvarez. “So we invite the parents, its a fun way to make connections with their parents careers, and workforce, and just let them see what’s out there.”
Alvarez says the school is all about learning traditions that bring families closer together.
“We have many students who have come back with their own children to participate in the Kinder County Fair, and we have sixth grade students who come back to help us as well and its a great way to continue traditions here at Ontiveros as well.”
“This is a tradition that has been taking place for 25 years,” says Principal Gayle Vienelo. “To come out here and see all the learning and fun that is taking place, I just know Ontiveros is a special place to be.”
Teachers, district officials, and the superintendent were all on hand to judge the projects and give out awards.
The school also partners with Righetti High School to hand out books to each and every student. “We just to hope to continue this tradition every year and make it bigger and better.”
