‘Orchard 2 Ocean’ run to help Carpinteria school activities

Runners are ready to lace up their shoes for the annual Orchard to Ocean run in Carpinteria. The event takes place Saturday.

The event raises important money for school activities not normally funded in the annual budget. Those include field trips, art programs, and other enrichment activities for all grade levels.

The course goes through a scenic route throughout the city involving agricultural zones and beachfront neighborhoods.

There is a 10K, 5K and one mile “fun run.”

Registration can be found at the Carpinteria Education Foundation website or at http://www.active.com/carpinteria-ca/running/distance-running-races/orchard-2-ocean-2017?int=.

Here is the official press release from the organizers:

“The 25th Annual Orchard 2 Ocean (O2O) 5k, 10K and 1 Mile Fun Run – March 18th, 2017. It is an event for both elite and casual runners. Organized by the Carpinteria Education Foundation (CEF) and Parent Groups from each of the schools in the District, ALL proceeds are used to fund field trips, swimming programs, equipment, arts programs and other enrichment opportunities/activities at ALL Carpinteria Unified School District schools. As schools continue to lose funding, Carpinteria schools rely on this annual O2O funding to keep these opportunities for their students. “

“The Orchard 2 Ocean has become a favorite among Santa Barbara County and Ventura County runners, with its delicious after-race food and beautiful course. The coastal view course runs along the Carpinteria State Park Campground, along the Carpinteria Bluffs, returning through the beautiful Concha Loma Community. A fast course, usually providing many PRs for the competitive runner!”

“Registration can be found at the Carpinteria Education Foundation website or at http://www.active.com/carpinteria-ca/running/distance-running-races/orchard-2-ocean-2017?int=.”

Same day registration will begin at 7 a.m. at Carpinteria Children’s Project at 5201 8th St., Carpinteria, CA 93013.

The race begins adjacent to the school property on Palm Ave. 10K begins at 8 a.m., 5K begins at 9 a.m.

The 1 Mile Fun Run will begin at 10:00am at the Carpinteria Middle School track.
