RV parking enforcement on hold in Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara City Council approved an ordinance late last year that bans parking oversized vehicles such as RVs on city streets, but it won’t be enforced for at least six more weeks.

City attorney Ariel Calonne said he will be working to make sure the wording is legal.

But Calonne said the city voted in favor of spending $60,000 on alternative parking overseen by the New Beginnings Program.

“What’s unusual with Santa Barbara is that the New Beginnings Program, funded by the city, is a national model for off-street parking for the homeless.” said Calonne.

People living in RV’s or cars may apply for spots found by the program.

There are currently more than 20 people living in RVs and the program hopes to find parking spaces for up to 40 RVs.
