High school senior struck and killed by train in Montecito on Saturday afternoon

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office identified a young man struck by a train as 18-year-old Connor O’Keefe.

The incident happened near Fernald Point in Montecito around 1:20 p.m., Saturday,

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, the teen was walking on the railroad tracks when the Amtrak train approached.

The train activated its brakes and blew its horn but the young man did not respond to the train.

Amtrak traffic was delayed briefly while crews investigated.

Friends of the family are remembering O’Keefe as a Santa Barbara High School senior and water polo player.
