Santa Barbara man crushed by three-wheeled motorcycle dies

70-year-old Santa Barbara resident Kenneth “Levi” Livingston Saks has died from injuries suffered on March 3rd after his 3-wheeled motorcycle crashed in downtown Santa Barbara and landed on top of him.

The Santa Barbara Police Department confirmed the news to NewsChannel 3 Friday afternoon. “Levi” was taken off life support on March 11 and died a short time later.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but the police department says neither alcohol or drugs are suspected. No further details were provided.

A man is in critical condition at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital after a three-wheel motorcycle rolled over on top of him near the intersection of State Street and Carrillo Street in the City of Santa Barbara.

The motorcyclist has been identified as 70-year-old Kenneth “Levi” Livingston Saks of Santa Barbara. He remains in critical condition at this time, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

The cause of the March 3rd crash is being investigated by the SBPD. State Street was closed to traffic between Figueroa Street and Carrillo Street for for several hours while investigators were on scene.

Santa Barbara police say that at about 3 p.m., the motorcycle was traveling along Carrillo Street. Saks was making a right turn onto State Street when for unknown reasons, veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into a nearby tree.

The force of the impact ended with the motorcycle landing on top of Saks.

It’s unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the collision.
