Thief caught on camera in Orcutt antique store

Sick to her stomach, that’s how the owner of the items describes how she felt after seeing a woman hold them in her hands in a surveillance video.

Video shows a woman walking around with the items in the outdoor part of the Deja Vu Antique Mall in Orcutt.

“I felt terrible that day, sick to my stomach and violated,” says Cheryl Forster, owner of the stolen items.

She is a small business owner and rents a space out at the store. Here she sells the trinkets and antiques she finds.

What she never expected was to find out someone had stolen two items from her area worth more than $200.

“I hoped and prayed we would find it and i just hadn’t looked good throughout the store,” she says.

She says the thief stole two boxes that are used to store car parts.

She’s now thinking twice about keeping something of value in plain view on the outside of the antique mall.

You are taking their livelihood away from them, she took over $200 from her pocket, and we are all struggling, we are all working hard,” says Wendy Steller, owner of the Deja Vu Antique Mall.

She says everyone who works here is like one big family.

“When one of them is hurt and scared to bring merchandise in it devastates me,” she says.

Steller says this was a “grab and go” type of theft. She tells us this all happened in just about 10 minutes.

She’s shared the surveillance video online hoping the thief would return the items.

So far, its received thousands of views.

What’s more remarkable is the message Forster has for that person.

“I forgive them and by the grace of God I forgive them and I hope this won’t occur again because their heart will be changed,” she says.
