Water pipe breaks in Santa Barbara neighborhood

A water main broke on the 3400 block of Richland Drive in Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara City Fire Engine 4 was alerted to this break by a passer-by around noon Tuesday.

Water was flowing down the street for over an hour. Santa Barbara City Public Works is trying to turn the water off.

A dark colored Honda Accord was sitting on top of the water main break.

A tow truck was brought in to safely remove the car from the unstable ground. After the car was towed out, the owner was able to drive away without any damage to the Honda.

It is unknown what caused the water pipe to break.
