Arrest made in connection to 2012 Oxnard homicide
A suspect has been arrested in connection to a murder that occurred in 2012 in the city of Oxnard.
On Monday, investigators with the Oxnard Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit arrested 25-year-old Hugo Sanchez of Oxnard for the 2012 murder of Jose Gonzalez.
At around 1:30 p.m., police officers from the Oxnard Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit arrested Sanchez after Major Crimes Investigators obtained an arrest warrant related to the murder.
On July 9, 2012, Oxnard police officers responded to several 911 calls of shots fired in the 2500 block of Greenbrook Drive. Officers arrived and located 19-year-old Jose Gonzalez suffering from a gunshot wound.
Gonzalez was declared dead at the scene.
Officers located a second shooting victim nearby. The second shooting victim, a 22-year-old Hispanic male from Oxnard, was transported to the hospital and survived his injuries.
Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit learned the victims were walking together when several subjects approached the victims and a confrontation occurred. The victims were shot and the suspects fled the scene. Investigators believe the confrontation and subsequent murder of Jose Gonzalez was gang motivated.
Major Crimes Investigators followed up on leads and tips and interviewed persons of interest in this case.
Based on all the information gathered during the course of the investigation, Major Crimes Investigators were able to gather enough probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Sanchez.
Sanchez was arrested on a possible charge of first degree murder and was transported to Ventura County Main Jail.
His bail is set at $1,000,000.00.
Investigators believe additional arrests will be made in connection to Gonzalez’s death.
