Everyone inside the building was able to successfully evacuate. Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries and smoke inhalation according to the Ventura City Fire Department.

While the cause of the fire is under investigation, a man was arrested that night on suspicion of arson. Ventura Police Department Detective Sergeant Matt Cain says Turner started the fire in his room. Turner was arrested the night of the fire at the complex after evidence linked him to it. Turner is currently being held on $100,000 bail at the Ventura County Jail for the arson charge.

The Leewood hotel is a 50-unit affordable housing complex. The 40 residents who were displaced are receiving emergency shelter and assistance by Red Cross.
