New pet ER to open in Orcutt

Pet owners in north Santa Barbara County can now rest easy – Veterinarian Joel Conn and his staff are opening a new facility called PETS ( Pet Emergency Treatment Services) Hospital to take care of everything from exotic to contemporary pets when after hours medical emergencies strike.

“No one likes to go to the ER, no one plans to go to the ER, it’s a scary place – often expensive – so we’re aiming to do what we can to mitigate those factors and try to make it even though it’s never a pleasurable experience, we’re trying to make it easier on people,” explains Owner and Veterinarian Joel Conn.

Conn says this location in Orcutt will be the only one of its kind between Arroyo Grande and Santa Barbara.

“We will not be seeing appointments for general practice – we will not be doing spays and neuters, vaccines, selling flea control – that kind of thing – we’re strictly emergency urgent care,” Conn tells us.

The vets that will be operating in this facility are trained differently then regular veterinarians.

“Our veterinarians are really emergency trained so it is a different type of medicine and that’s where their passion is,” says Conn.

But before they can start treating pets, there’s still a lot of work left to do.

“Our x-ray and lab equipment is all getting installed on Wednesday, Thursday [and] Friday, and then we have heaps and heaps and heaps of medical supplies to stock and get that ready to go so we hope to be open next week,” Conn says.

The PETS Hospital is planning to open its doors by December 20th. For more information, click here.
