Police nab suspect believed to be a repeat shoplifter in Santa Barbara
A woman suspected of being a repeat shoplifter downtown has been apprehended by Santa Barbara police on the first day of a busy holiday season.
Employees of Saks Off 5th called 911 as soon as they recognized a person who has allegedly committed shoplifting crimes before in the store. Police were notified about 7:45 a.m. The store opened early this morning.
The investigation is on going and the name of the person taken to the police station has not been released.
A patrol unit was close to the store on State St. and Carrillo and saw the suspects vehicle parked, facing out towards the street from a small lot behind the back door.
In moments a woman with an arm full of items, came out.
She was detained and handcuffed on the scene.
Police say the store has a strong loss prevention program with well trained employees who often spot, detain, or later identify shoplifters for authorities.
