Santa Barbara Rescue Mission Serves up hundreds of free Thanksgiving meals

The Santa Barbara rescue mission fed volunteers who in turn fed hundreds of guests in need of a hot meal.

The Chef and his kitchen staff said they have been there. Many have recovered from substance abuse and are now trying to help others.

Chef Wes Jones said you know the turkey is cooked just right when the meat falls off the bone.

George Machado said he has turned his life around after kicking an opiod addiction. He said helping others has helped.

The San Luis Obispo native credits the program with helping him see a brighter future.

Guests were offered medical screenings and gift cards before dining on turkey with all the trimmings.

The volunteers included entire families and actor Michael Imperioli, who served pumpkin pie.

The Soprano star has been a volunteer for years and didn’t call attention to himself, but his fans noticed him.

Rescue Mission President Rolf Geyling said, “The holidays can be the hardest time of year, with no family of their own-or place to call home.”

The services offered this week will to help them prepare for winter and show them people care..
