High schools dealing with political conflicts between students and teachers
Dos Pueblos High School Principal Shawn Casey said the election cycle has been politically charged at school.
On Monday, Casey said she brought a teacher, student and parent together to resolve an issue that began on a day 150-students walked out of class to protest President-Elect Donald Trump.
A student who didn’t wish to protest took to social media.
Veterans Day weekend provided a cooling off period before the issue was resolved, without anyone getting in trouble.
Casey said, “Because it has been an extraordinary time, nobody’s perfect. There have been lapses and people have had feelings hurt.”
Another parent said she is still dealing with a similar matter. She said her son was criticized for not agreeing with protesters. She said he ended up walking home. She said she got a call from the school about his unexcused absence.
They plan to meet with the vice principal on Friday.
Other schools are dealing with similar issues.
