Pedestrian dead after being struck by train in Ventura

One person is dead after being struck by an Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train Sunday afternoon in Ventura.

According to the Ventura Police Department, the incident happened north of the Ventura station near Emma Wood State Beach at around 2:30 p.m.

The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train 769 operates between Santa Barbara and San Diego. An Amtrak investigator was on scene. Other Pacific Surfliner trains experienced multiple delays while waiting for the completion of the police investigation.

Amtrak said the person hit was trespassing on the train tracks. No passengers or crew suffered any injuries.

The identity of the person is being withheld until the county coroner can complete the investigation and notify next of kin.
