Santa Paula man found guilty of child molestation
It took a Ventura County jury two days to find 61-year-old Alfonso Gonzalez guilty of child molestation stemming from an investigation in June 2013.
On Thursday, Gonzalez was found guilty of three counts of lewd acts on a child who was 10 years old at the time, one count of oral copulation on the child, and 16 special allegations including that Gonzalez is a habitual sex offender.
The crimes took place in Santa Paula and Lake Casitas in 2012 and 2013. Authorities say the victim looked at Gonzalez as a father figure and often called him “Papa”. The two were not blood relatives.
Gonzalez was convicted of sex offenses in 1995, according to the Santa Paula Police Department.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 17. Gonzalez faces 50 years to life in prison.
