Santa Maria stabbing leaves one man dead

The number of homicides in Santa Maria just this year is closing in on double digits.

42-year-old Anthony Arguijo was stabbed just before nine Sunday night in the 500 block of E. Cox Lane, according to police reports.

When police arrived on scene the Nipomo native was rushed to Matrian Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police were not able to obtain a description of the suspect, and continue to search for those responsible.

Investigators say the stabbing is not gang related, and were surprised by the location of the crime.

“I was surprised by the location, its not a bad neighborhood,” says Sgt. Russ Mengel with the Santa Maria Police Department. “It’s a neighborhood we occasionally get called to for a loud party or some other type of disturbance, but its not a neighborhood known for violent crime.”

The Santa Maria police department is asking anyone with any information on this case to contact them immediately.
