Salsa Makers Compete At Annual Festival In Oxnard

Salsa lovers crowded into a tasting tent at the 23rd Oxnard Salsa Festival.

They enjoyed dozens of salsa’s from mild to spicy.

Judges tried the amateur kind and chose seven winners during the great Oxnard Salsa Challenge 2016.

Victor Franco was the big winners, winning best green, best hot salsa and judges’ choice Dot Stern won best red. Marie Gutierrez won best medium sassa, Gary Ramsey won best mild and Mike Hall won best specialty/fruit salsa.

Hall said,”My secret is tenacity, I’ve don’t this, it is my fifth year and this year I decided to go with a fruit instead of the hot stuff and the fifth time was a charm.”

Hall’s salsa included pineapple, mango, red onion and jalapeno.

The festival also included a dance contest to raise money for local charity.

And it celebrated all the local ingredients grown in area.
