ORIGINAL STORY
A single vehicle accident has a deadly ending early Monday morning in San Luis Obispo County between Santa Margarita and Atascadero.
It happened on U.S. Highway 101 in the northbound lanes just south of San Diego Way. California Highway Patrol said the 29-year-old, female driver drifted off the roadway at a high rate of speed.
She then apparently over corrected and lost control of the vehicle. At that point they believe she traveled off the road a second time, this time the vehicle went airborne, hit a freeway exit sign and and oak tree before landing on the descending dirt shoulder.
The woman was not properly restrained and was partially ejected from the car. Drugs and alcohol use have not been ruled out as contributing factors.
The victim’s name has not been released until the family is notified.
The Templeton Area CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
