ORIGINAL STORY

UC Santa Barbara adjunct professor and KCSB radio DJ, Angela Karmis has been missing since Friday evening, according to friends.

Friends and colleagues spent Tuesday evening posting missing persons signs around Santa Barbara’s west side. That is where Angela Karmis was last seen around 9 p.m. on Friday.

Karmis has a doctorate in Physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she worked as an adjunct professor during the school year, but she wasn’t hired to lecture during the summer. She spent some of her spare time volunteering as a DJ at the college radio station KCSB.

Karmis was a member of the LGBTQ community and often stayed with friends.

She was walking from one friend’s home to another when she disappeared.

Karmis, 32, is 6’1″ with brown eyes and a slight build. She has several tattoos including a paw print on her chest and the Buddhist term “mind the gap” on one wrist.

She had trouble making it on an adjunct salary and lived in a Lompoc motel until friends took her in. They said was coach surfing.

Friends worry that she may be depressed.

John Berezney, Ph.D., said he met her in grad school. He said they are working with the police to find her.

“We are worried for her safety. She was last seen in the vicinity of Valerio Street near Elings Park and was supposed to be on her way towards San Andres Street and Micheltorena Street in Santa Barbara. A police report has been filed (case #16-45966),” states the Help Find Angela Karmis Facebook event page.
