LOMPOC, Calif. – For Lompoc rapper, Jayke, music has always been an outlet. On Saturday he coordinated with his friends and The Alley Project in Lompoc to hold an event called “Project Your Passion.”

The goal was to inspire local youth in the community to follow their passion and dreams and showcase their work to the community.

“We’re just a group of kids that had a dream and we’re finally learning how to make that dream happen and happen for everyone else,” said Jayke.

More than 100 people showed up at the event where locals song, danced and showcased their artwork. Jayke says the event took about a week to put together and by creating an event like this, kids in the community can get off of the streets and focus on their passion.

This is not the first time Jayke has tried to help his community. About a month ago, he teamed up with Nik Koyama, to create a music video to promote peace and unity in Santa Maria. Come the end of the month, the duo are teaming up again to take their messege on the road. It’s all part of the “Get This Kid Out Of Here Project,” something started by Koyama in 2013.

“I’m taking other kids from the community around the country to work with businesses so they can learn what it takes to build a career out of their passion,” said Koyama.

Some of the money raised from the weekend’s event will help fund the 45-day trip they plan to take around the country. They say they have plans to visit places like New York, Florida and Indiana. Jayke tells us he plans to hold more events like this for the community in the near future.
