Lompoc Firefighters Show Residents How To Properly Install Car Seats

Lompoc residents attended an informational session on Sunday morning to learn the right way to install a child’s car seat.

First time parents, grandparents and guardians all took advantage and attended.

Lompoc firefighter, Christopher Martinez, says more than 70 percent of people install a car seat incorrectly. The key is to read the directions and make sure that it is correct for the child’s height and weight, not age.

Also important, is to send in the car seat’s registration. This is the way that manufacturers can contact owners if there is a recall or a problem.

Right now, the recommendation is to place the seat facing the rear for as long as possible. Come January 2017, it will be the law for children under 2 years old, 40 pounds or 40 inches.
