Oxnard PE Teacher Arrested for Misconduct with Minor

An Oxnard physical education teacher is on administrative leave after being charged with criminal misconduct with a minor.

Ivan Fernandez was arrested by Port Hueneme Police on Thursday, according to a letter sent out by the Oxnard School District.

The school’s directory shows Fernandez was a PE teacher at Fremont Middle School. The school district says his alleged misconduct does not involve any students in the district.

“It’s important to tell the students about this because we need to inform them of one of their teachers. This teacher was a very beloved teacher with glowing recommendations and evaluations and it is important to establish that he is under investigation, and based on the nature of the allegations being investigated, it is important to reiterate that the safety of our children is number one for us,” said Dr. Cesar Morales, superintendent for the Oxnard School District.

Parents were notified of the allegations by a letter sent home with students on Thursday.

“I am pleased that as a result of sending that notice home and checking in with the administration today that no student has come forward with any information misconduct or any wrong doing at our schools specifically,” said Morales.

The Oxnard School District says Fernandez will remain on administrative leave until the investigation is completed.

NewsChannel three reached out to the Port Hueneme Police Department to get information on the case. The Police Department refused to answer any questions or comment on what the detective in charge of the case is calling an “ongoing investigation.”
