Thousand Oaks Holds Off Arroyo Grande in CIF Semifinals
Thousand Oaks jumped out to a 21-0 lead and also held a 40-21 fourth quarter advantage before they just held on to edge Arroyo Grande 40-35 in a CIF Northern Division semifinal game.
AG completed a pass at the Thousand Oaks 10 yard line as time expired but a desperation lateral did not work as the Lancers are off to their first CIF final since 1987.
Thousand Oaks will play at Camarillo on Friday, December 4 at 7pm. The Lancers lost a thriller 49-45 at home to Camarillo back on October 30.
Against Arroyo Grande, Max Gilliam passed for 299 yards with three touchdowns, two to Kevin Howell who had over two hundred yards of receiving. Perry Martin rushed for 175 yards with three scores.
Down 40-21 with 8:29 left in the game, the Eagles Alex Checchi scored and then quarterback Sawyer May cut the deficit to five points on a three-yard td with 3:30 left.
But AG could not complete the comeback and they lose at home in the semifinals for the second straight year. They end up 11-2 on the year. TO is 11-2 but headed to the championship game.
