Veterans Day Event Draws Large Crowd to Santa Barbara Cemetery

Veterans from many wars were side by side at the Santa Barbara cemetery to remembers those who served in our military. Overhead military planes, and a vintage Vietnam era chopper went by.

The site was lined with tall flags. Those attending were given smaller ones to wave during the event.

Art Petersen with the 101st Airbourne showed off a new medal he received from France this year for his service during the Normandie D-Day invasion. He says it came 70 years after the event, and he is not sure why. Petersen picked it up in San Diego with other World War Two vets and he thanked those making the presentations graciously. He sadly remembers the countless losses.

Petersen and many of the other vets who attended say they go to all the ceremonies each year and encourage local residents to join them.
