SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Santa Maria Valley businesses will soon have an opportunity to use a distinct new logo on its products thanks to a recent contest held by the Chamber of Commerce and its Economic Development Commission.

The winner of the month-long contest was revealed Tuesday morning. The logo, created by Sara Voss, was chosen by a panel of judges, including community members, as the best entry out of more than two dozen. The green and purple circular logo includes the words “Made In The Santa Maria Valley,” surrounding an image of grapes centered over stylized rolling hills.

Voss said she wanted to include the emerging wine industry and rolling hills in her design. She also made it a point to use a circular design, and create a logo that would look good both in color and black and white.

“It’s such a validation of your hard work and artistic abilities, it’s great, I’m overwhelmingly thrilled,” said Voss.

The winning logo will not have copyright restrictions and can be used by any Santa Maria Valley business.

“Hopefully some of our manufacturers, some of our producers in the Santa Maria Valley will take that logo and start using that as an identity for the Santa Maria Valley,” said Dave Cross, Director of the Economic Development Commission.

The contest was open to anyone and included 26 different entries. For her winning design, Voss was awarded $400. Other award winners included Teresa Rodil (2nd Place) and Melissa Evans Nagel (3rd Place).
