New Mobile App Empowers Santa Barbara County Residents

The ‘PulsePoint’ mobile app is now available for residents throughout Santa Barbara County. It empowers citizens and off-duty professionals trained in CPR, by alerting them when a sudden cardiac arrest occurs in a public space in their immediate vicinity.

Users are alerted at the same time emergency responders are, and are given detailed instructions of the incident including the location of automatic external defibrillators nearby. Users with CPR training will be able to quickly find the victim and begin CPR immediately rather than waiting for medical personnel to arrive on scene.

The app also allows users to receive custom alerts of incidents like fires, vehicle accidents, rescues, and news worthy events as they are dispatched. They can also listen in on live emergency radio traffic via the app where available.

‘PulsePoint’ was made available in Santa Barbara County through a generous grant from the Aware & Prepare Initiative.

The app, which describes itself as enabling citizen superheroes, is free and available for both iOS and Android devices.
