Beainy to Enter SB Court of Champions

Barb Beainy is considered the first truly great player for UCSB women’s basketball.

She will be inducted into the Santa Barbara Court of Champions on May 31 at Fess Parker Doubletree Resort. Beainy is one of 17 people that will be honored which includes her former teammate and fellow assistant coach Cori Close.

As for Beainy she was named the Big West Conference Player of the Year in 1992 which was UCSB’s first honor of its kind. She led the Gauchos to their Big West title ever that year and into the NCAA Tournament.

Beainy’s 1,519 career points ranked second in school history when she graduated.

She is already a member of the UCSB Athletics Hall of Fame.
