Donations Needed to Fill Unity Shoppe Shelves
Every year Unity Shoppe workers spread the word about empty shelves in hopes people will be reminded to give, but they say this year is different. They say it is worse. There are more empty shelves at their year-old location at 1401 Chapala St. in Santa Barbara.
Elvira Avina has worked for the Unity Shoppe for decades. She was also a client as a youth. She is worried people won’t find what they need on the free grocery store shelves.
There are also toys and clothing needed for the low income holiday shoppers who are referred to the Unity Shoppe.
In addition to helping by donating food and money, people can help by shopping at Unity’s retail store at 1219 State St. Designer donations like the shoes you might see in “Sex and the City” can be purchased for a fraction of the price. All of the money made goes to the Unity Shoppe.
There is also an area where goods are wrapped for seniors in need.
The Unity Shoppe will benefit from its 28th telethon broadcast on KEYT NewsChannnel 3 on December 13th.
