Suspect In Torture, Attempted Murder Appears In Court
Timothy Hayes is accused of torture and attempted murder in San Luis Obispo. If convicted he could serve up to life in prison.
He remains in custody at this time. He made his first court appearance Friday morning.
While in court the judge issued a restraining order, ordering Hayes to have no contact with the victim or the victim’s parents.
Earlier this week officers arrived at the Chevron gas station on Santa Rosa after getting a call about a woman who had been assaulted. That is where they found the victim. Officials said she had significant injuries ranging from burn marks to scratches and bruising.
Police said Hayes assaulted the woman. When they arrested him, they believe Hayes was under the influence of drugs.
His charges range from torture, attempted murder to criminal threats, kidnapping and battery with special enhancements including the use of a deadly weapon. Hayes is 33 and the victim is 27.
She is still recovering from her injuries. The restraining order from the judge would be in effect if Hayes posts bond to get out of jail.
His attorney said it is not yet clear if Hayes will do that.
