Child Killed in Alleged DUI Rollover Crash Near Pt. Mugu
UPDATE: The California Highway Patrol has identified and arrested the driver involved in Wednesday night’s fatal rollover accident that took the life of a child and sent four people to the hospital.
34-year-old Latoya Najar of Camarillo has been arrested and faces several felony charges.
The accident happened just after 7 p.m. Wednesday night on the northbound side of Highway 1, or Pacific Coast Highway, just before Las Posas.
Officer Steve Reed with the CHP said Najar was driving with her three sons and another passenger, 33-year-old Vanessa Chavez of Camarillo, when she lost control of her vehicle. The car rolled and crashed into a tree.
Najar’s 7-year-old son was killed. Her two other sons, a 9-year-old and a 12-year-old, were injured and remain hospitalized. Chavez was also hurt. Their injuries range from moderate to critical.
The CHP believes Najar was under the influence of alcohol.
The fatal accident shut down the northbound lanes of PCH for several hours.
