Congresswoman Lois Capps Updates Hiring Procedures

After the recent tragedy involving a former staffer, Congresswoman Lois Capps pledged to review her office’s hiring and vetting procedures.

A week after Congresswoman Capps aid Raymond Morua allegedly hit Mallory Dies in a DUI hit-and-run, Capps has decided to tighten her hiring procedures.

“While we were standard house procedures, I’ve decided to implement stronger requirements,” Lois Capps said.

After it was discovered that Morua had several alcohol-related arrests before he started working for her in 2011, Congresswoman Capps realized that it was important for her to implement more stringent policies. “We are working with the US Capitol Police to conduct criminal background checks on every new employee hired, and all current employees.”

Mallory Dies was taken off life-support Wednesday afternoon after being in critical condition for more than five days. Morua has been charged with murder in her death. “I’m heartbroken over what happened to Mallory, and my thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family,” Capps said.
