Teens Raise Funds for Mary’s Meals in Malawi, Africa

When five teenage girls from St. Raphael’s and Santa Barbara Mission’s Confirmation program learned about a nonprofit called Mary’s Meals they were inspired to launch Teens for Mary’s Meals.

The program started by brothers from Scotland began helping people in Bosnia. Now it helps people in many parts of the world.

The Goleta teens raised more than $20,000 with some help from teens in Simi Valley.

About half of the money will help build a kitchen next month at a Malawi school. The rest will pay for meals at 6 cents each.

Monday night they showed the documentary “Child 31” at St. Raphael’s church.

Patty Decker, the USA coordinator from New Jersey, served as guest speaker after the film.
