Suspicious Device Found On Cayucos Pier
UPDATE: San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s bomb technicians have determined a device discovered this morning on the Cayucos Pier was a hoax.
The device consisted of three metal tubes with an electronic timer taped to the top connected by several wires. The device will be analyzed as part of the investigation. The Bomb Task Force ended its investigation about 2:00 p.m. and allowed those who were evacuated back into their homes and businesses.
The department’s public information officer Tony Cipolla confirmed to NewsChannel 3 that someone spotted the device under a picnic table on the pier about 11:30 Thursday morning.
A nearby deputy checked out the device, called in reinforcements and evacuated the area.
“It looks an like an improvised explosive device with a timer attached,” said Cipolla via telephone. “Keep in mind it’s Halloween and could be part of someone’s costume, but we need to treat as the real thing.”
The department’s robot arrived after 1:00. It picked up the object, placed it in a containment vessel for further investigation.
