DUI driver causes 3-car crash

A Santa Barbara man has new legal troubles Friday after crashing his car into an unmarked police car.

California Highway Patrol investigators said he was drunk. It happened around 11 p.m. Thursday near the off-ramp for El Sueno Road at Highway 101 in Santa Barbara.

To make matters worse for Jason Hunter, the car he hit had two police officers in it. A spokesman with the police department said the force of the crash landed Hunter’s Subaru on its roof and flipped the police SUV on its side.

The impact forced the police SUV into a third car traveling westbound on Calle Real.

Both officers suffered minor injuries but were able to help Hunter get out of his car, also with minor injuries.

An officer who arrived moments later determined Hunter was intoxicated and arrested him. The accident closed the area for more than 2 hours.
