Small Stearns Wharf fire extinguished
A small fire on Stearns Wharf has been extinguished. Fire crews say it was started by a cigarette about 11 a.m.
The location was across from the Moby Dick restaurant.
There was never any threat to the public, but fire crews say they are always called, even on the smallest fires, because of the potential risk to the public and wharf businesses.
Fire crews even carved back a small section of a plank, and then used a thermal imaging camera to make sure there was nothing smoldering and no remaining heat.
Stearns Wharf was the scene of a terrible fire on November 18, 1998 when a third of the landmark structure was destroyed.
