D.R.I. searching for organizations to support inside areas affected by devastating quake

Alocal organization is doing what it can to help the millions of people affected by the deadly earthquake in China. Direct Relief International is working to find agencies it can partner with inside China.

The organization wants to make sure any aid it sends, will get to the people who need it most.

The massive earthquake killed nearly two hundred people, and forced about a million others from their homes.

As emergency crews deal with the disaster, D.R.I. is reaching out to help.

“We support hospitals and clinics with donations of medicine and medical supplies,” explained Brett Williams, the Director of International Programs at D.R.I.

The organization has a lot of experience dealing with the devastation and aftermath of disasters like the one in China.

“There’s so much loss of life, which is so sad, and there’s so many displaced, and infrastructure damage,” said Williams.

He spent time in Haiti after the devastating earthquake there in 2010.

He’s seen first hand how long the rebuilding process can take.

“With this earthquake there’s upward of a million people displaced, and they’re going to need access to ongoing healthcare,” he said.

D.R.I. continues its support those in need.

“We work with over 1,000 clinics here at home in the U.S. and internationally over five hundred hospitals,” Williams explained.

D.R.I. is not asking for donations for China, until it is able to find the right partners in the area.

“The right partner for us is somebody providing the highest level of care to anyone who shows up at their door, and we’re going to try to support their work so they can continue to do so,” said Williams.
