Students push to stop UCSB from funding certain companies
A passionate and controversial public forum took place in front of the UCSB student senate. Several hundred students and faculty gathered to voice their opinions.
On one end, students fought to stop UCSB from funding corporations that profit from the military occupation of Palestine. Students tell Newschannel 3, some of the companies listed in the resolution for divestment are Motorola, Caterpillar, General Electric, Hewlett Packard, and Raytheon.
On the other side, Pro-Israeli students say this move would only alienate Israel, and won’t lead to peace initiatives.
A vote is expectedby early Thursday morning. UCSB won’t make any immediate changes to their investment policies regardless ofthe outcome.
