Man arrested after foot pursuit through Eastside

A police pursuit ended with a man being arrested on a rooftop in Santa Barbara.

Matthew Knight, 25, was arrested and charged with a traffic violation.

The incident started around 1 p.m. Thursday on the 1000 block of East Cota. Police said they spotted Knight and another person in a car on Milpas.

When Knight saw police he sped down Cota then bailed out of his car and fled on foot. Officers began to create a perimeter in the area.

Lt. James Pfleging of the Santa Barbara Police Department said, “The suspect was spotted on a nearby roof and taken into custody. He surrendered when he realized there was nowhere to go.”

Knight was also wanted on two outstanding warrants for grand theft and driving on a suspended license.

When police arrested him, he had a pound of marijuana with him.

He was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail.
