California Strawberry Festival poster unveiled

The California Strawberry Festival isn’t until May, but events to get you to mark your calendars already underway.

Today organizers of the 30th-annual festival unveiled the award-winning poster.

Artist Raya Dejan’s graphic work of art was one of 65 entrees. The Westhills resident started studying art as a child growing up in Iran. Dejan was awarded a check for $2,000 and a tropical vacation getaway during a luncheon today at Yolanda’s Mexican Caf in Oxnard.

Her artwork will be featured on festival T-shirts, posters and merchandise on May 18 and 19, 2013 at Strawberry Meadows of College Park (3250 Rose Ave., Oxnard).

In honor of the festival’s theme: “30 years of goodness” there will be 30 contests.

The nonprofit organization that runs the festival has donated more than $4 million to charities and scholarships.
