Fast start by Dons H2O lifts them into semifinals

Kelsey O’Brien scored all three of her goals in the first period while Rocio Fesembeck added two early goals as Santa Barbara High School raced out to a 6-0 lead after one period and cruised to a 13-4 Division 1 quarterfinals win against Irvine.

Erin McGeoy scored twice in the second period as the Dons led 9-0 at halftime as Irvine could never solve Santa Barbara goalkeeper Maddie Trabucco who did not play after halftime.

Top-seeded Santa Barbara has won 20 straight games as they advance to Wednesday’s semifinals to be played in Irvine.

Meanwhile San Marcos lost on the road at second-seeded Foothill 13-5. The Royals end a terrific season that saw them win their first playoff game since 1997.
